B I O G R A P H Y SUDA

This outfit hailed from Cape Town and was formed in early 1998 after several cool sessions between Ben (bass), Morné (guitar) and another mutual friend, Bert Engelbrecht (guitar). André (vocalist) entered as material took shape – he later also filled in on guitar duties. David (drums) joined the band several months later ending a spell of dodgy drummers to secure the line up. Since then, the band worked hard at finding its niche and taking on the Cape Town music scene.

SUDA gigged extensively and played alongside other more well known South African acts such as Springbok Nude Girls, Blunt, The LED, Blackmilk, Vitamin X, Sunfish... SUDA also embarked on doing gigs independently of promoters and club owners by playing local halls – exploring every means possible to get the word out there. 1999 saw the band lashing out nationally for the first time when they played at the Oppikoppi InFESTation. They did the same in 2000 at the Oppikoppi TREK 2000 in Worcester. Touring then seemed probable, but was depending on the release of the first album.

It was obvious that nothing lacked in the ambition department. As musicians the members of SUDA were out to push themselves and their creative abilities. For the last year SUDA was concentrating on becoming a potent live act, constantly growing in confidence. They were also in studio, adding the final touches to a first release.
